Hi, I’m Janessa
I opened Lemon Seeds Music in 2022 because I wanted Lakewood to know just how easy peasy making music can be. Every virtuoso and rock star is a real person who got their start with the same scales and callouses as the rest of us. Real people who needed real skills to make real progress toward their goals.
For a while, I struggled to put Lemon Seeds’s personality into words. I talked about tradition vs. trend and hybrid education models. It’s not wrong, it’s just not us. The truth is, Lemon Seeds was always a boutique rock school – I just hadn’t found the terminology. Until now.
What that actually means:
Boutique because you’re not a number here. Our roster is intentionally small, our teachers are hand-picked, and we pay attention – to your goals, your interests, the song stuck in your head that you’re dying to learn to play.
Rock because our focus is on the instruments they don’t traditionally teach in schools (shout out to Lakewood’s incredible music programs!). We teach piano, voice, guitar, bass, ukulele, drums, and songwriting because we believe these have a place in every home.
School because we teach theory, skills, and technique that can be applied to any musical situation in which you find yourself, whether that’s a Broadway pit orchestra or a basement jam session.
Our goal is to grow musicians who find their sound, find their people, and maybe even find themselves on a stage bigger than they ever imagined.
Our philosophy
learn. Real skills, real technique, real theory. Taught by teachers who know their stuff and know how to make it make sense.
belong. Music is a team sport. Regardless of whether it’s a private lesson, a group jam session, or a full band – you’re part of something here, not just a name on a schedule.
rock. Whatever that looks like for you. Loud guitars, quiet piano ballads, the first song you ever wrote yourself – if it’s real and it’s yours, it rocks.
